About
A new model for emergency housing.
SecondNest is a nonprofit rapid-rehousing marketplace. We pair women and children who find themselves unhoused with private casitas, ADUs, and vetted motel units — the privacy and dignity of an Airbnb, the structure of HUD-style case management.
Most shelters are congregate. They can feel unsafe, lack privacy, and are especially hard for children. SecondNest uses existing, underused housing stock to offer something different: a private door, a path forward, and accountability on both sides.
The organization pays up to six months of rent directly to vetted hosts. Participants commit to monthly programming and career or education support — so that at the end of six months, families are stable, self-sufficient, and ready for permanent housing.
